Rewarding yourself with a yummy beverage isn’t something you need to give up just because you’re trying to lose weight. With a little bit of ingenuity, your favorite drinks can be made low-cal without skimping on flavor. While processed and highly caffeinated drinks aren’t something you should indulge in every day, these drink ideas can make for a nice treat once in a while. Here are some great low calorie drinks to try at Starbucks:

Skinny Pink Drink - 35 calories

The delicious, but high sugar, pink drink is a Starbucks favorite. If you love pink drinks, try changing it up to this low calorie version:

  • Venti unsweetened passion iced tea

  • Unsweetened coconut, soy, or almond milk

  • 3 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup

  • Scoop of dried strawberries

At just 35 calories, this order will get you that pink drink flavor you love while keeping the calories and sugar low.

Caramel Frappuccino (light) - 60 calories

If you’re a sucker for caramel (us too), you have to try this light version that still offers all the caffeine and yummy sweet caramel flavor but light on the calories and sugar.:

  • Grande frappuccino

  • 3 pumps sugar free caramel syrup

  • Light caramel drizzle

  • No whipped cream

  • Unsweetened coconut, almond, or soy milk

This will bring a grande from around 400 calories to about 60.

Pumpkin Spice LIGHTay - 60 calories

For all the PSL lovers out there (we see you), you can still get the pumpkin spice flavors without all the added sugar. Simply order:

  • Grande latte

  • Unsweetened soy, almond, or soy milk, steamed

  • 1 pump of pumpkin sauce

  • 2 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup

  • No whipped cream

  • Light pumpkin spice topping on top

This variation will take a grande PSL from 390 calories to around 60 calories.

Matcha LIGHTay - 35 calories

Matcha is a type of green tea that can be made  as a hot  or iced latte. While lower in calories than a PSL, you can still make this drink a bit more calorie friendly if you’d like. Try ordering this:

  • 3 scoops matcha powder

  • Unsweetened soy, almond, or oat milk

  • 1 pump sugar free vanilla syrup if you want it sweet

  • On ice or hot (whichever you prefer)

Usually a grande matcha latte is around 190 calories, and this version is closer to 35.

Light White Mocha - 40 calories

White chocolate mochas are deliciously sweet and incredibly popular drinks at Starbucks. If you love white mochas but not the nearly 400 calories found in their grande size, try this alternative:

  • 2 shots espresso

  • Steamed unsweetened soy, almond, or oat milk

  • No whipped cream

  • 3 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup

  • Top with cocoa powder

While maybe not quite as decadent as a regular mocha, this delicious alternative will only run you about 40 calories.

Sweet but light Chai Latte - 35 calories

If you love the sweet spiciness of a hot or iced chai latte, you’ll love this lighter version as well:

  • Chai tea (from tea bag, not chai syrup)

  • 1 pump sugar free vanilla syrup

  • Steamed or iced unsweetened oat, soy or almond milk

  • Sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin spice topper on top

The regular grande chai latte is around 240 calories, while this one will only land you around 35 calories. If you want a zero calorie version just omit the milk!

Zero calorie vanilla cold brew - 0 Calories

The vanilla cream cold brew is tried and true, this alternative keeps the energy boost you need without the sugar.

  • Cold brew (or nitro cold brew)

  • 3 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup

Again, this contains zero calories!

Sugar free London Fog Iced Latte - 40 calories

London fog is an iced tea latte that has been gaining popularity in the recent months for its delicious floral bergamot and lavender flavors. Try this sugar free version:

  • Grande iced London Fog tea blend

  • 3 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup

  • Unsweetened soy, almond or oat milk

  • Ice

If you prefer a hot version, try asking for this same drink but just…hot! With only 40 calories and no sugar, this drink is sure to satisfy your cravings.

Iced tea lemonade - 40 calories

If you like Arnold Palmers, this drink at Starbucks is essentially the same thing. Here’s how you order it:

  • Iced black tea

  • Light lemonade

  • Ice

This drink will run you around 40 calories with light lemonade and 50 calories with regular lemonade.

Low calorie Pecan Crunch Latte - 80 calories

This hot drink that tastes just like pecan pie in a cup is not to be slept on, but here’s a way to make it lower in calories and sugar:

  • 2 shots blonde espresso

  • Steamed, unsweetened oat, soy or almond milk

  • 1 pump pecan syrup

  • Light pecan crunch topping

The normal pecan crunch latte in grande size is 270 calories, this version will be closer to 80 calories.

General tips on ordering lower calorie drinks at Starbucks

When you head to your local Starbucks, there are a lot of ways you can make your favorite drinks lower in calories and sugar. Here are a few ways to lighten things up:

  • Ask what sweeteners are used in your favorite drink and replace with its sugar free alternative or omit all together!

  • Opt to try a natural sweetener like stevia or monkfruit if you want to bring your own.

  • Go for lower calorie milk alternatives like skim, fat-free, and non-dairy.

  • Skip the whipped cream and go light on the drizzles and toppings if they contain sugar. Toppings like cinnamon, cocoa powder, and pumpkin spices often have no sugar in them but still give you a punch of flavor.

With these simple suggestions, you can still enjoy a Starbucks drink without compromising your calorie goals. You’ll find that as you lower your tolerance for sweetness by going with less sugar in your drinks, you won’t crave them as much going forward.
