Frequently Asked Questions
What is Happy Sleep?
Happy Sleep is a one-stop, comprehensive sleep medicine platform that comprises two key parts:
- An award-winning FDA grade home sleep test device (Happy Ring)
- A clinical care team led by board-certified sleep physicians
Coupled together, these allow Happy to deliver a powerful consumer-first healthcare experience that seamlessly blends medicine and wellness.
What is a Home Sleep Test (HST)?
A diagnostic home sleep test is a way to objectively measure how well you sleep using special medical-grade devices, like Happy Ring, at home. These devices measure things like breathing quality, sleep quality, heart function, and more while you sleep. Doctors use the information from the test to find out if you have any sleep problems, like sleep apnea.
The Happy Ring is an FDA-cleared Class II medical device, available with a prescription from a Happy Sleep physician. Home sleep testing services utilize a combination of clearances under K240236 and K210034.
What makes Happy Sleep different?
Happy Sleep combines clinical-grade accuracy with true convenience. Our easy-to-use, 100% at-home sleep test is low-profile and comfortable to wear—so you can actually sleep while using it. Unlike most wearables that stop at raw data, Happy Sleep includes full clinical support to interpret your results and create a personalized treatment plan. No guesswork. No disconnected handoffs. Just seamless, end-to-end sleep care.
Is Happy Sleep only for people with a known or suspected sleep disorder?
Happy Sleep is for everyone! Whether you think you have a sleep disorder or just want to improve your sleep and life with the best technology, we’ve got you
covered. You can track your sleep on your own or get help from our care team.
Our customers include:
- Patients seeking at-home diagnosis and treatment for sleep disorders
- Wellness enthusiasts wanting accurate sleep and health tracking
What sleep conditions does Happy Sleep treat?
Happy Sleep treats a wide range of sleep conditions, including:
- Sleep apnea
- Insomnia
- Idiopathic hypersomnia
- Shift work sleep disorder
- Circadian rhythm disorder
- Restless leg syndrome
- Narcolepsy
- Parasomnias
- Bruxism
- And more
What’s the difference between the Happy Sleep Test and the Happy Sleep Membership?
Every Happy Sleep journey begins with a Diagnostic (FDA grade) or Discovery Test. This includes 3 nights of sleep monitoring followed by a consult with a member of the Happy Sleep Care team to review your results and plan next steps.
- The Discovery Test is ideal for someone who is just curious about their sleep and wants to learn more. This option includes a consult with a sleep coach.
- The Diagnostic Test is ideal from someone who is serious about their sleep and wants medical help to optimize it. This option includes a consult with a sleep doctor (and formal diagnosis if appropriate).
After the Test period ends you have the option to keep your Happy Ring for ongoing sleep monitoring. Annual membership includes full data access on the Happy Sleep app, including nightly reports, weekly trends, notifications and insights.
How long do I have to test?
Each Happy Sleep Test membership includes up to three nights of testing over a five night period. Your test period begins on the day your Happy Ring is delivered. After that you may either return your Happy Ring using the included shipping label or keep it for ongoing sleep monitoring. If you choose to keep Happy Ring, you’ll be automatically enrolled in our annual membership plan. The Happy Sleep Membership allows you to track your sleep every night so you can monitor your progress and continue to meet with your doctor to adjust your care plan.
Is Happy Sleep covered by medical insurance?
Happy Sleep is in network with most health insurance plans (Cigna, Aetna, United, Emblem, Blue Cross, Medicare, and more). Telemedicine visits, sleep testing and oral appliance treatments are covered by most medical insurance for patients who are diagnosed with sleep apnea and are symptomatic. Coverage does vary according to insurance plans. Your financial responsibility includes your co-pay, deductible, and co-insurance. When you have been prescribed sleep testing and treatment by our staff, we contact your health plan for preauthorization and determine any out-of-pocket expenses. If you don’t have insurance, check out our Pricing page.
Why test for multiple nights?
Two or more nights of home sleep testing increases your success rate and reduces the need for retesting. This ensures our board-certified sleep physicians have sufficient data to interpret your results accurately and provide the best recommendations and care. Since sleep patterns can vary significantly from night to night, continuous monitoring is essential for optimizing your sleep.
